How Much Protection Do Water-Resistant Cases Offer?

If you own valuable equipment, you likely take thorough precautions in order to protect it. From handling with care and operating properly to choosing the best protective case, you must be careful to maintain equipment in the best conditions. This includes while it is in use as well as when it is being stored or transported. At S3 Cases, we understand the importance of a dependable case that is able to protect equipment from outside elements and conditions.

Our water-resistant equipment cases are designed to provide the highest level of protection from the damaging effects that water or moisture can have on the function and quality of valuable equipment, electronics, documents and more. Regardless of the item our cases are entrusted with, we strive to provide a product that will prevent damage from exposure to water.

High-quality water-resistant cases are a worthwhile investment for countless industries and countless products providing protection in extreme environments and even underwater. But what does it really mean when a case is water-resistant?

What Does Water Resistant Mean?

An item that has been designated as water-resistant has been designed and manufactured to resist the penetration of water to a certain degree. In terms of a protective equipment case, water resistant means that the materials used are specially formulated to resist outside water from entering the case and affecting the products it is protecting.

Water Resistant Vs. Water Proof

Water resistance is the ability to resist water penetration. However, water resistant doesn’t mean it is completely impermeable. When something is labeled as waterproof, it implies that the product is entirely impervious to water. To better explain this, imagine that a case is completely submerged underwater for an extended period of time, a waterproof case guarantees that not a single drop of water will enter the case. In comparison, a water-resistant case won’t be able to completely guarantee that water will not get in. However, it is designed to make it difficult for that to happen.  Read this article for a little more insight into the differences between waterproof and water resistant.

Water Resistant Designation of S3 Cases

At S3 Cases, our products have been designed to remain durable in countless environments and conditions. Every one of our cases leaves our factory in a waterproof state. They have also undergone and passed demanding standardized submersion tests proving their waterproof capabilities and potential. All cases comply with MIL-STD-810F immersion tests, ensuring that you will receive a product that meets performance guidelines in place for any military or commercial equipment. However, we recognize that the nature of use for a protective case can diminish those capabilities over time. Error in latching the case, damage from usage, and seals that are not cared for properly among other things can affect the waterproof potential of any case. Because we cannot provide a definitive guarantee on the use and care of the cases or the contents of a case, we prefer to designate our cases as highly water-resistant. Without damage to the seals or plastic, you can rest assured that our cases will be able to protect your valuable items from water exposure or wet environments.

Effects of Water Exposure

The benefit of a water resistant equipment case is fairly obvious. Electronics, documents, and a wide range of equipment for the industrial, medical, and tactical fields along with countless other products can all be negatively affected by water or moisture. Water can cause damage to wiring, circuit boards, batteries, switches, electronic screens, hard drives and more. It can also cause corrosion or even lead to mold growth. It could cause ink to fade on important documents and cause the paper to become limp or even disintegrate. In general, the function, condition, and quality of any item that is not designed for use in or with water will be negatively affected from exposure to water or moisture.

* S3 Cases recommends that all customers perform their own submersion testing prior to usage in any environment. As mentioned, our cases leave our factory in a waterproof state. However, because we cannot actually warrant the contents of a case, we strongly advise every customer to test the case without important items to ensure that the case remains dry inside before actual use.
